Feature Focus: Gabriel's Garden
Connect: On Facebook by Clicking Here!
Why: To find fresh, local produce; eggs; jams and jellies; canned goods; and homemade baby bibs just to name a few!
Donate: Soda Pop tabs to benefit the Ronald McDonald house or items for care packages sent to our soldiers!
When: Every Saturday from 9-1
Where: Twin Falls Farmer's Market
When food-conscious Lacie Mikesell gave birth to her first son, her interest in knowing where her food came from was heightened. "I really wanted to know where my food came from and what it was treated with before I fed it to my son," explains Mikesell. This concern lead to Mikesell thinking outside the box. She started out by getting a small flock of laying hens. Gathering the eggs and carrying them straight from the coop to the kitchen can't get anymore fresh than that! As a single mom, Mikesell needed a way to earn extra income during the summer without taking time away from her son. She decided she could grow a big garden and sell her spoils at the local Farmer's Market. This grew into Gabriel's Garden. Mikesell states, "Currently Gabriel's Garden offers fresh eggs from chickens that are allowed to be chickens, produce from the garden, homemade jams and jellies, and homemade baby bibs. But Mikesell doesn't stop there. While taking care of herself and her son she also reaches out and does what she can to take care of others. Currently she is gathering donations to benefit soldiers as well as the Ronald McDonald house. "The care packages for soldiers are because of what they do for our country. Razors, shower gel and boredom busters are at the top of the requests. Neck coolers are another oft requested item, but they need to be cammo or military green in color. Currently the temps are running around 120* and they are in all their gear." She goes on to explain, "The Ronald McDonald house donations started because earlier this month my son had to go to Boise to have surgery, we were lucky enough to be able to stay at the Ronald McDonald House. I was in awe of how great of a place it was, words cannot describe just how awesome both the house and the staff were. It made it so much easier during a very stressful time. I am collecting pop tabs for the Ronald McDonald House but any other new items such as baby clothes, toys, etc. will gladly be accepted as well. Lysol wipes are also greatly needed."
Mikesell notes that she is just trying to make a difference where she can. She wants to be an example to show that even as a single mom she can take those moments to think about other people and even though she may not have a lot of money she can help those who may need it a little bit more.
We say that we are proud to have Lacie Mikesell as a member of our community and ask if any of you have the items she is collecting for these two great causes to please contact her for information on where to drop the supplies off. Or you can find her and Gabriel's Garden every Saturday from 9-1 at the Twin Falls Farmer's Market. Stop by to say hello and let her know that our community supports her and her efforts 100%. You can even grab some fresh eggs while you're at it!

Pet Fun Day!
Hardluck Hounds is hosting a fun day at Thomsen's Park in Twin Falls, Idaho - July 10, 2010 from 1pm to 3 pm
This is just for you and your pet to have some fun and see just who has the cutest, smartest or all around best pet.
We have some great local businesses supporting this event. Some of them so far include Krengels Hardware, LT Hardwood Floors, All Point Technologies, The Sudzy Mutt, Mary's Grooming, Native Grooming, Plant Foods, and more folks are offering to donate every day.
We have invited the local shelters to come out with either pets or photos to help get some adoptions done this day. If you are looking for a pet some great ones can be found at the shelter. Most of the dogs we have received recently have been purebred, (at least they look like it) Hagrid - to the right is a cocker spaniel, Dexter is a German Shepherd and Max is a Yorkie. The mutts are equally worthy so please don't forget to keep checking the pound to see if your new pet has arrived.
Shake Up Your Weekend!
Don't miss out on the amazing talent that we have right here in the Magic Valley! Grab a date, a friend, take the whole family, or fly solo...no matter how you go you will enjoy the show!

FREE Lunch in the Park
On the side bar we have posted the dates, times, and locations of the Free Lunch in the Park this summer for Twin Falls and the Minidoka area. More areas to come as we get the information compiled. We think this is one of the BEST programs in the area and think everyone should take advantage of it.
Not only does this programs advocate for those kids who might not have a nutritional lunch otherwise, but it also gives the stay-at-home mom a chance to get the kids out of the house and not have to worry about making lunch for the day, not to mention saving some money on groceries.
Please understand there are no income requirements and all citizens of the community are welcome to come out and have a lunch break in one of the many locations listed. You could even try a new park every day if you are feeling adventurous!
We feel so proud and grateful to our community and the school district nutrition program for sponsoring a program like this. There is lots of GOOD being done in our community.
If you take advantage of this program and even if you don't but think it is a worthy cause, please take a minute to send a thank you or even have your kids draw pictures of them in the park eating their lunches and send it to the school district (I will check into what the proper address will be and get back to you). Until then, if you have a thank you or a picture you would like to submit (can definitely be done anonymously) please e-mail it to us and we will post it on this site, as well as, get it to the right people!
Enjoy lunching in the park!
